Rice to the Occasion
If you ever thought that “rice is just rice’ then a visit to Leo Foods International Foods Wholesaler and Retailer in Marbella, will amaze you. We stock an extraordinary range of rice types suited to international cuisines. For example, the rice suited to Indian dishes will not work for Thai cuisine and vice versa.
Please note, if you are one of our trade customers in the hotel, restaurant, bar or café trade on the Costa del Sol, don’t forget that we stock our different types of rice in wholesale size packs, the Balah Dehraduni Basmati rice being available in 35 kilo sacks for example.
We also know that our retail customers don’t usually require rice in such great quantities, and for these customers we have the different types of rice in standard one-kilo packs.
Cooking Basmati Rice
We have an exceptional range of basmati rice, the traditional rice used in Indian cookery. Often our retail customers ask us for tips on cooking basmati and we suggest following this guide from Tilda Rice, one of the best known brands for basmati and one that we stock in our warehouse.
We also stock wholegrain brown basmati rice. This requires a slightly different technique, as the instructions from Tilda explain. Again we stock Tilda’s wholegrain rice, which is perfect for these dishes from BBC Good Food for both meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans.
Tilda is not the only brand we stock; we also have Tolly Boy, Mumra, Heera, Devayaa, Guru and Balah Dehraduni rice in wholesale and retail pack sizes.
Other types of rice
Of course, you don’t always want basmati rice. Dishes such as Spanish paella require the round rice grain, and as we are in Marbella, we naturally stock the paella rice that is loved by chefs. We stock these in white, wholegrain/brown and semi-wholegrain forms. We also have wild rice and the special Arborio rice needed to make a brilliant Italian risotto. We found these rice based salad recipes that are perfect for dining al fresco this summer.
And we have the fragrant Jasmine rice and short-grained rice necessary for creating these authentic Thai recipes. We also stock sushi rice, which is a premium grade Japanese short grain rice that is mixed when cooked with rice vinegar, sugar and salt to make the various forms of sushi.
