Leo Foods Marbella celebrates Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year falls on 25th January this year and it will be the Year of the Rat, which finishes on 11th February 2021. As you may know, the Chinese zodiac is based on animals, and the Rat is the first in its 12-year cycle. You’re a Rat if you were born in 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008 and any babies born in 2020 can also claim this sign as their own. The Rat is known for spirit, wit, delicacy, flexibility and vitality. And apparently 2020 is going to be a great year for Rats in terms of business and money.
How Chinese people celebrate New Year
It’s the most important festival of the year for Chinese people worldwide, including the growing Chinese community in Marbella, and in China they have a week off work.
The main Chinese New Year activities include 1) putting up decorations, 2) eating reunion dinner with family on New Year’s Eve, 3) firecrackers and fireworks, and 4) giving red envelopes and other gifts.
Leo Foods has all the ingredients for a Chinese feast
As Marbella’s leading wholesaler and retailer of international food products, we can supply restaurants, hotels, bars and cafes, as well as home cooks, with all the ingredients needed to create a Chinese New Year feast.
For Chinese people, the ‘reunion dinner’ that brings the family together is the most important meal of the year. Chinese people are great believers in eating auspicious dishes that will bring them luck during the coming 12 months, so you may wish to try the ‘lucky’ dishes that traditionally make up a New Year feast.
According to China Highlights, a steamed fish dish increases your prosperity, simply because the word for ‘fish’ in Chinese sounds like ‘surplus’.
Eating dumplings will also bring wealth. It isn’t difficult to make your own, and we can supply you with the products to create the dumpling dough and the authentic Chinese flavourings, whether you prefer minced pork or vegetable dumplings.
Spring rolls will also help you financially, and a special type of rice cake is thought to lead to a salary increase or promotion. Noodles are for happiness and longevity and are either fried and served on a plate, or boiled and served in a bowl with their broth.
And we have found some other delicious Chinese New Year recipes at BBC Good Food. There are dishes here that you will want to make year round, including Hot & Sour Prawn and Sweetcorn soup, and Toffee Banana spring rolls. Vegan and vegetarian dishes are also included.
